Geeky Hanky

4 Feb

A while back we bought a huge amount of vintage handkerchiefs for a personal project, and recently, while cleaning our craft room, I found a handful of plain white ones that were left over and forgotten about. That’s when I had the idea to use waste canvas to cross stitch designs onto them.

The handkerchiefs dated from the 50’s I think, and this one has a pretty lace corner on one side.

We adapted our much larger Stark sigil pattern to create this simplified direwolf motif. We also designed the words ‘winter is coming’ in a pretty cursive script.

With so many people being more eco conscious these days – reusing canvas bags, recycling etc etc, it’s a wonder that more people haven’t embraced the cotton hanky. They can also be used for cleaning glasses or touch screens, for those of us who aren’t keen on the idea of blowing our noses in them. Whatever its use, we think this geeky hanky is pretty cool, and a great gift for any Game of Thrones fan. It’ll be in our Etsy store soon, priced at £4.00, and may well be one of a kind.

Here’s a sneak peek at another hanky I’ve been working on. Ideal for Whovians!

This hanky has a crochet style lace trim all around. It just needs a careful wash and press and should also be in store soon.

Once again, this will be a unique one off piece, so if you like it, don’t hesitate!

Geeky Gifts and Christmas Deadlines

27 Nov

The ‘sew geeky‘ section of our store, (which is usually filled with bags and purses in various comic book fabrics) has been selling through fast! While I’m holding on to some items for the up-coming pop-up shop we’ll be attending on December 8th, I’ve also relisted a few items in the shop. Everything is ready to ship, so why not have a look and see if anything catches your eye, either for a Christmas gift or as a treat for yourself.

Also, on the evening of December 8th, I will be listing everything that didn’t sell at the fair. Last post days for delivery to the US in time for Christmas is December 10th, for Western Europe, it’s December 12th, and for the UK, it’s the 13th for parcels. So bear that in mind when you’re ordering. We will do our very best to ensure all orders go out before these dates.

Pacman tote bag – £7.00

Batman coin purse – £6.50

Batman zip pouch – £6.00

Superman washbag – £6.50

Comic sound effects card wallet – £6.00

Custom Washbags are Super Cute!

24 Jul

The last in our recent slew of custom orders were two super cute little waterproof drawstring washbags. These were relatively easy to make, but look really great! Once again, the customer opted for non-superhero themed patterns and we were happy to oblige. In the end we decided on the red car print for a little boy who loves cars and trucks, and the bird print for another who loves bird watching.

In a few weeks time I’ll be adding a few of these bags to the store. They’re handy for all ages, and useful for weekends away, the gym or keeping make-up in. Here’s a sneak peak of some of the fabrics I’ll be using.

So be sure to like our Facebook page or follow us on Twitter to be the first to know when they hit the store!

Not Just Capes

18 Jul

We’re getting ready to introduce some new merchandise into the store at the end of August, which isn’t so much cross stitch related, but more fabric and needle and thread based. We toyed with the idea of opening another store for our textile products, but we don’t want to confuse anybody, so you’ll find the new products under the ‘sew geeky‘ tag in our existing store when they’re listed (if you check it out at the minute, there’s a lonely Batman skirt available, and I have enough fabric to make one in a smaller size if you like.) We’ll also be taking custom orders, and while our store will remain heavily geek based, we welcome all sorts of requests. This post is about one of them.

So here at C&C towers we clearly love our superheroes. But, while some kids love comics, and that’s awesome, some kids love princesses, and that’s awesome too. And we’re more than happy to help those kids deck out their bedrooms, pillow forts or cardboard box castles with super awesome decorations too. Check out our most recent custom order. The request was for bunting for a little girl’s bedroom, in pinks and purples. I asked what kind of things she was into, and was told she loved Disney princesses. So I found some suitable fabric and got to work. This was the result.

The little girl in question hasn’t seen it yet, but her mum is certain she’ll love it, and I was able to use the excess fabric to make two matching cushion covers 🙂

So, if you like what we do (and I’ll have more examples of just what we can do in the coming days) feel free to ask us to change up the fabrics or colours. We’re always happy to help!
